Governor, Health Official Address H1N1 in Richwood
Governor Joe Manchin and West Virginia's top health care official, Dr. Kathy Schlemp, addressed Richwood senior citizens at a meeting Wednesday afternoon.
Dr. Schlemp explained the process of detecting the "high risk" groups and the importance of getting vaccine to those most likely to be infected. Currently, there are relatively few cases of the 2009 H1N1 in people 65 or older, which is unusual when compared with seasonal flu.
Currently, the H1N1 "high risk" category includes people 6 months to 24 years, pregnant women, people who provide care for children younger than 6 months, people 25-64 who are high risk due to underlying health problems and emergency medial service personnel.
